"Is the government hiding the truth about extraterrestrial life?"
Many people believe in aliens, and many do not. I, myself, am a non-believer, but I am not closed to the idea of believing, it would just take A LOT of proof to convince me! However, in saying all of that, I have a few questions to pose to all of you. I recently watched the movie Apollo 18. (For those of you who have not seen it, it is a sci-fi that apparently contains a portion of actual footage (not sure which parts, thoug I believe it might be the to Earth and back audio). It is about the crew of the Apollo 18 mission going to the moon, discovering an empty russian ship there, dead russians, and aggressive alien lifeforms. Overall it was a pretty average movie, and if you are looking to waste a few hours of your life I can recommend it, otherwise, probably give it a miss.) The movie itself was pretty rubbish, but the conversation and ideas afterwards was the interesting part. I could not really see any credability in this movie, but it got me thinking, so I researched 'Apollo 18 mission' on the internet, and guess what I found... nothing. More than nothing even, which helped give the concept credability. (Though many people say that Apollo 18 was actually the Apollo-Soyuz test project (ASTP), which was supposed to be a diplomatic space mission to demonstrate the two countries co-operation.) I did find a fair bit of evidence however on apollo 19 and 20, which were also supposed to be cancelled. Apparently there is a gentleman by the name of William Rutledge, who was the captain of both the Apollo 19 and 20 missions. These missions were collaberations between the USA and the USSR. The story goes that on Apollo 15 they discovered a 5km long object on the dark side of the moon, and missions 19 & 20 were to further investigate the Delporte-lzsak region, close to the well-known Tsiolkovsky crater, where the object was found.
From what I have discovered, the Apollo 19 mission was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California in July of 1975. Apparently there was a significant launch acknowledged by NASA at this time, giving this credability. This flight apparently nearly met with disaster, something to do with technical failure during a TLI maneuvre. (???)
The Apollo 20 mission, however, took place in August of 1976 and also launched from California’s Vanderberg Air Force Base, with the main purpose of landing on the far side of the moon and investigating the crashed ship. (supposedly)
So here is where my opinion lays. With the cold war happening, America HATED the Russians. Why did they all of a sudden team with them for the Apollo-Soyuz project, and supposedly team together for the other two secret missions? It seems to me that the Russians infact discovered the ship (if there even is a ship), so the Americans had to swallow their pride to be a part of it. (Apparently the Russians DID have a rover exploring the far side of the moon, and its beacon supposedly guided the Apollo 20 mission to the correct location.)
Now, if you were to search on 'youtube' for footage of the ship, you will find oodles, but you will also find information on something called 'mona lisa', which is supposedly a recovered alien body from the ship on the moon. I, personally, still remain unconvinced, but I do enjoy hearing people's opinions on this contravertial topic, because the sad truth is, we cannot trust the government to tell us the truth, we must find it for ourselves!
Let me know if you are a believer or not.

Anyone who looks at the night sky & categorically denies that are other life forms out there has a fragile & tenuous hold on reality.
ReplyDeleteIf you believe that there was an alien spaceship on the moon & that the U.S. & U.S.S.R. had joint missions to investigate, then I say "thank goodness!" Anything that gets the U.S. & U.S.S.R. cooperating together has got to be a good thing.
Do I believe that this actually happened, NO. I believe that your source of information is to say the least unreliable! Just because you saw it on the INTERNET does not make it fact. In amongst all of this "information" you have gathered there may be a grain of truth, unfortunately, it is inundated with copious amounts of fantasy.
I do understand that the believers will constantly franticly, fanatically hold on to this story in order to justify their own beliefs & no amount of logic or fact will dissuade them.
And so I NEARLY wish them well.
Having watched that movie I have to agree with some of what you have said. It was actually LESS than average, & there were so many holes in the story-line that it it looked more like "Swiss Cheese!"
ReplyDeleteApollo 18.19 & 20 were cancelled because the American Gov. at the time did not see the point of wasting that much money on space missions that were not teaching them any new information & also because the American people had lost interest.
It took many, many years of talks & diplomacy before the tensions finally eased between the U.S. & U.S.S.R. Even today, although they seem to be friends, there is still a lot of paranoia between the 2 nations.
As for aliens, I am undecided. On the one hand I have never seen any real proof of their existence & have not seen any definitive proof that they have visited us. On the other hand I think that the Universe is just SO HUGE that I feel that it is a real possibility that there are other types of life out there.
I hold the right to sit on the fence on this one! I too have seen the movie after TJ mentioned it to us! Complete rubbish in my opinion! However, there are two camps in the Christian world as far as aliens are concerned.
ReplyDelete1. Held by CMI, a Christian organisation that aims to spread Bible truth about creation, is that God did not create other beings on other planets. They suggest that if he had then they wouldn't be saved as Christ died for humanity's sins not for other beings including the angels. I agree on that point, however,
2. The other side is that there are other worlds, unfallen so they don't need to be saved, just as the angels who chose God not Satan. Satan's domain is Earth, he can not go anywhere else to tempt others, we chose him! That's why Christ came here, to save those of us who do choose God. We are being watched by the angels and the other worlds to see that God is justified in his actions.
I have no evidence either way, but I do hold the opinion that it is possible that there are other beings. I just don't believe that God would allow us to interact with them if they did exist. We're certainly not the best influence for innocence! One day, if they do exist, we will be able to commune with them and tell them about what sin is really like and that they chose the right path!
Firstly in response to the topic as posted by T.J I would like to say that I 100% categorically believe in aliens, as no matter how you believe the universe was created it is just too close to infinite in it's size to imagine there is no other life out there.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that however, I don't particularly believe in the plethora of conspiracy theories that talk about governmental coverups regarding alien contact (although who knows, some of them may be true).
Regarding the religious implications of life on other planets I would just like to say that considering that God is infinite and that this means:
1. immeasurably great: an infinite capacity for forgiveness.
2. indefinitely or exceedingly great: infinite sums of money.
3. unlimited or unmeasurable in extent of space, duration of time, etc.: the infinite nature of outer space.
4. unbounded or unlimited; boundless; endless: God's infinite mercy.
That is stands to reason that he can exist, create, manage and if needed save an infinite number of planets in an infinite number of ways. Just because things happen in a certain way on this planet there is no reason to think that it would have any real impact on anything other than what happens here. The bible is only really an earth based perspective. Each planet in the universe could have had their own savior (Jesus, Buddha, Allah, etc) or some derivation of that if that was needed for their development.
I do not accept that anyone who denies the existence of aliens has a 'fragile and tenuous hold on reality'. This view, in my opinion, is blatant naturalism and depends, in a large part, upon evolution. In essence; if life evolved on earth, then given that the universe is so immense, life is bound to have evolved on other planets. However, if you believe in an all powerful God, it is quite reasonable to suggest that he only created us and that the entire universe was created for us. Like Sara though, I hold the right to 'sit on the fence' as it is also entirely reasonable that God created other intellegent life appart from us. However, for all intents and purposes I am a non-believer in that I do not accept that they would be permitted to come to Earth.
ReplyDeleteAs for the view that God could save in different ways. I find it amusing that sceptics who can see no more value in the Bible than as a door stop should lecture us Bible believers on theology. You missed a few characteristics of God:
5. Complete Holiness
6. Unchanging
7. Desire for complete justice
Given that God has these three characteristics and that the punishment for sin is death, someone had to die. Therefore, Buddah, Allah or whoever else cannot save us, only Jesus can and has.
It is merely conjecture that the Bible is only an Earth based perspective. Sin is a universal problem that needs a universal solution. The Earth is a spectical to the entire creation and will ultimately end in God being vindicated of Satan's claims.
I don't buy that you are saying that each planet could have it's own saviour etc. What you are really saying is that there are many paths to 'salvation' on this Earth as well. This ultimately comes from your 'post modernism'(which is just ancient paganism) which denies absolute truth. Biblical Christianity, is incompatible with all other religions in that it claims that there is only one truth and one way to heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ.
WOW, firstly i will not argue with you in regards to your belief. You are entitled to think what you like as am I.
ReplyDeleteI am however very angry that you presume to tell me what I am saying. I was very clear in what I said and I meant exactly what I said. If you cannot understand or accept the viewpoint I put forth that is fine, but don't put words in my mouth. You have no idea what I think or how I believe and to presume so is shear arrogance.
You take things so personally Matt. I have no problem with you, in fact I consider you a good friend. I do have problems with your ideology and this is a reasonable forum to voice them on. The real definition of tolerance is to be able to respect and love people despite differences in opinion. You must realise that I am never attacking you personally but trying to point out the fallacy in your arguments. I do respect and love you Matt and if you don't believe what I claimed you do, then I apologise.
ReplyDeleteTo T.J and all other members of this blog, it has taken me a while to write this post as I have been busy with work and apprehensive about posting anything further on this blog. I have come to the conclusion that I need to post one final message and then no longer participate in this blog.
ReplyDeleteT.J, I don't want you to take this personally as I truly love your blog and want to continue to participate in the discussions prompted by your posts. Your blog is an interesting and thought provoking forum that deserves to be amongst a community of mature and considerate people, who are able to discuss their ideas in a way which leaves everyone feeling validated that their ideas have been heard, respected and sometimes maybe even inspired by the ideas others have raised. Sadly this is not the case, instead there is a small group of people who either intentionally or not, attack anyone who posts an idea that differs from their apparently small and rigid world view.
In the past I have opened myself up and shared some of my views and opinions and these have been met with hostility and an assumption that other people know better what I think and believe. This has left me feeling nothing but regret that I tried to share some of myself with others. To name one specific incident it would seem I have even been called intolerant, which I find particularly hurtful as I have a very open mind about most things.
For example my view on God. It is my belief that there is only one God, but that every single being in the universe believes in the same God. The only difference is in the way we perceive God. This is analogous to a multifaceted gem where everyone sees a different facet of the same gem. Each facet is God but for each individual their perception and understanding is different because that is what makes sense to them.
It is my hope that in time this blog will have the audience it deserves and at that time I will happily return to share more of myself, but in the meantime I will continue to read your interesting and thought provoking topics but I will no longer put myself in a position where people can hurt me with their inconsiderate words.
